Don Schmidt Named 2025 Fair Person of the Year

CONGRATULATIONS to the 2025 FAIR PERSON OF THE YEAR – Don Schmidt!! Don has deep roots in the Calumet County Fair. Don has been on the Calumet County Fair Board of Directors for over 40 years, retiring this year. He is also a Dairy Superintendent.

In his youth as an active member of Sherwood Wide-Awake he showed Ayrshires for his Uncle Silas Ott, and advance his love of dairy to win awards at World Dairy Expo. He is know to step in when an extra hand is needed to show an animal and has assisted many youth in fitting their animals for the show ring. A member of the Calumet County Holstein Breeders he assisted with developing and planning the Futurity, Black & White Sales and District Shows to name a few.

Don is also known to step up and drive the fair float in local parades when needed. He also supported the Fairest program by attending the coronation annually and being a friend to each representative.

Presenting Don with the award was long time friend and dairy enthusiast Joe Brantmeier, Calumet County Fair President Jeff Wunrow, 2024 Fairest of the Fair, Emily Boll and Junior Fairest of the Fair, Lea Koch.
